“You got anything for me?” I jerk my chin at Puck. He is typing away on his computer, completely ignoring the world around him.

“Dude,” he shakes his head, “not sure, but they either got better at hiding or they just stopped talking.”

“Who’s they?” I raise my eyebrow at him.

“Fuck if I know,” he shrugs. “But it’s gotta be more than one, as in Bricks is not doing all that by himself. He knows nothing about computers, let alone messing around on the dark web,” he snorts.

“Agreed,” I nod in understanding. And he’s right, my father could barely check emails, no way he could mastermind anything like this.

“Anyway,” Puck brings my attention back to him. “Whoever he’s got out there, I am leaning toward them having stopped talking.”

“Fuck,” I drop in a chair by his desk. “I need this shit to be over. Becca is stressed out, can’t even go to work anymore because of it.”

“So I heard,” Puck eyes me carefully. “Emily’s not happy. She is mad that your girl didn’t tell her in person that she was taking time off.”

“Well,” I lean back and cross my hands over my stomach. “My girl would’ve been happy to tell her all about it had your girl answered any of her messages for the past month.”

It’s been a full month now since I moved into Becca’s house. Things are a lot better than after our first couple of days when she just wanted to snap my head off. Now, we seem to have found some common ground, and I am working hard on building on that.

I was serious when I told her I wasn’t planning on leaving her again, but I can tell that she doesn’t believe it. She goes to bed alone every night, a fact that kills me. I want to hold her while she sleeps. I want to make sure she is okay. And, most importantly, I want to talk to her about her pregnancy. However, she avoids it at all costs, and she won’t let me go to her doctor appointments either. I could’ve forced my way in, but I decided against it.

“What’s up, fuckers?” Sully strolls into the room, coming from God knows where.

“Where the hell have you been?” Puck snaps at him. “I called your cell earlier, and it sounded like you answered, but then I heard the voice of a little kid. Who the hell was that?”

My eyebrows go up in surprise at that little morsel of information.

“None of your business,” Sully grumbles, and I am even more surprised.

Puck turns his head and eyes him up and down like he doesn’t even know him. I really need to be present when he finds out they’re related. He is just about to say something when his computer dings with a message, and his entire focus becomes that.

“Why didn’t I know you were this good on the computer, asshole?” I kick at his chair, making it roll a bit on the hardwood flooring.

“You never asked,” he shrugs, eyes on the screen.
